I just discovered MILHell and I am SOO excited to be a newly minted MILHell DIL!!

My MIL… ARGH… where do I begin? There’s soo much that I need to vent about and get advice on but I’m gonna focus on the most pressing issue right now.

When I gave birth to my baby, I made MIL a grandma for the first time. Currently, my baby is her only grandchild as well. From the moment my baby was born, MIL has been super obsessed with him so she’s always casting a critical eye on my parenting skills.

She and I are both Chinese but I was born in Canada and she holds strongly to many of the “Old World” Chinese ways. As a result, we often clash in our approaches to parenting my little guy.

MIL was a true MIL from hell during the first month or two after I gave birth. She annoyed…

Some of you may remember me from two past entries called, “At Wit’s End.” Well, I’m back! This weekend my husband had taken our 2-yr. old son outside to spend time with him and to let me take a shower in peace. For those of you who don’t know, we live on a farm about 30 ft. from my inlaws. When I finished my shower and came out of our bedroom, I could hear my husband yelling, and thought he was getting onto our son for something. I look out of the curtains and see him and my MIL going at it (verbally) across the fence in our back yard! My first reaction was to let him have it out with her …again, then I decided I should be out there. He was in the process of repeating to her how she absolutely refuses to do what we have asked,…

A few months back I got into a rather large fight with my MIL since she would make plans to visit my daughter at my home then bail on me to go shopping, church group meetings, etc. She did this about 50 times, so I decided that we would no longer make plans with her. She denied everything and told my husband that she never made any kind of plan to visit. Since then I stop by her house once a month with my daughter for about an hour, when it is convenient for me and spur of the moment, so she cannot change the plans.

The last time we visited was July-anytime I attempted to visit afterwards, she was busy. I made the mistake of planning a visit one day in advance and call her when I was almost there-she decided to go to church. This was the last free…

Where do I start? My husband and I have been together for almost nine years. We’re fixing to have our 5th wedding anniversary. I had a nine year old son coming into the relationship who will soon be 18. My husband adopted him about a year ago. We have a 2-1/2 year old son together. We live on a family farm about 30 ft. from my in-laws. I guess when I first moved here, it was pretty obvious, that although my husband lived in his own home, he never left the nest. His mom especially, was still very involved in his home and the upkeep. My first thoughts were, maybe if they quit treating him like a child, maybe he would grow up. I am 11 years older than my husband by the way. There were initial issues of coming over without calling, walking in without knocking, coming in the…

I”m expecting twins in Feb. and my MIL has said things that have made my “pre-maternal” alarms goes off, these are my first children, and I already feel an overwhelming instinct to protect my girls from this harpee. She lives with my DH and I because she has no where to go. But my DH knows his priorities are with me and our twins. Even though she think this makes him a “traitor” but I know this is a desperate attempt to cling on to her son, franklly it does not work. When I got my first ultrasounds at 7 weeks (as we all knwo they looked like little squiggles.) She called them “my babies” and kept them in her purse for a week, the only reason she gave them back to me is because my DH made her give them back to him. When I heard her say my babies,…

…Stealing her “tea cozies.”

Apparently she brought them to a dinner party I begrudgingly went to. And, apparently, I stole them.

She makes this accusation to FMIL, who tells her she’ll ask my fiancé about it – Like its not perfectly obvious that I didn’t swipe her tat.

A few hours later, the old bag finds them, and not surprisingly, makes no reference to being wrong.

I laughed about it for hours afterward – My fiancé has been telling me for ages that the old lady was nuts, and if I didn’t believe it then, I sure do now!
