Mother-in-Law HELL

I warn you now, this is a bit long.

I have been with my boyfriend for three years now. When we first started dating I got along great with his mother. I thought she was a bit odd but nothing to batty. Boy was I WRONG!
She now hates me. She refuses to speak to me and when I do get a response out of her it is pure acid and hate. I’m not really sure when things changed but..here is a condensed version of the story.

So this is my 3rd post now, this is the disrespecteddil here. Long suffering and wanting to suffer no more from mother in law hell. So last night, DH tells me that “nobody’s perfect” and “So what she fed our LO a chocking hazard, they lived didn’t they” and wonderful quotes like that. He wants to set up an “intervention” where me and her and him sit down and “Chat” about “MY FEELINGS” Correction-an intervention where they can gang up on me, as usual!
I am the mother of this man’s child. I am breastfeeding and have had to put up with extreme levels of stress since pregnancy due to this MIL. MIL wanted to breastfeed MY child, threatened to actually do it, when my milk didn’t come in right away (had a c section, I supplemented with formula). She made comments about how its so easy I couldnt have been…

Back-story: DH was thrown out of home when he was 16, because he stood up to his alcoholic parents when they abused me whilst they were drunk, and then when they tried to force me out of his life (because they wouldn’t admit they had been in the wrong) he refused to stop seeing me.
Fast-forward a few months: My dad had taken DH in to live with us, as he had nowhere to go (his parents turned his whole family against him). We were all trying to get back to normal, and avoid DH family (despite the fact THEY had thrown DH out, and told him to never come back, and he wasn’t ‘part of their family’ anymore .. they continually harassed, stalked, and verbally abused us).
It was midnight and my cellphone rang. I woke up and answered it .. it was DH mother (now my MIL): she was drunk…

So I’ve been with my boyfriend for about two years now. Two weeks ago was when he popped the question, and of course I said yes. The battle with his mother has been going on long before that, but last night was just the final straw.

The back story: I have met his mother maybe 4 times in nearly 2 years. I have never once met his father. She has a serious drinking problem, and drunk-dials and texts him all the time, consistently telling him how he lies to her and he can’t handle life without her. This all started when he moved in with me. She can’t let go of him, she’s obsessive! So around Christmas we get a gift in the mail for both of us. It’s a cute little Christmas blanket and some ornaments. We start to think that maybe she’s coming around, kind of a peace offering.…

My MIL is an alcoholic: a VERY abusive alcoholic, who either doesn’t realise how destructive she is when she’s drunk, or else can’t admit it. My FIL is an ex-alcoholic, and is now a severe binge-drinker: also a VERY abusive drunk. They have hurt my DH and me so so so so much when they’ve been drunk: the things they’ve said are unbelievable. The lies and fantasies they’ve created to hurt us are so perverse. I don’t know much about alcoholics, but I presume that this is what it does to you.
Anyway, I’d like some advice from people who have experience with alcoholics: how do you get help for them? And also, do they know what they’ve done when they’re drunk? Do they realise they have said/done things that only a mentally ill person would do? How do you approach them: we’ve tried broaching the subject, but my MIL says…

After she had banned me from her house, and thrown my out because he refused to stop seeing me, she came round drunk to my family home where DH and me were living at the time. My mum answered the door, and my MIL said (I quote) “I’m terrified for my son, because your daughter is abusing him. He’s not safe with her. Did you know that when he was at work, your daughter burst in, and told him off in front of his workmates, because he was sitting next to a woman?”

Bare in mind here ladies, that I haven’t actually ever been to the place my DH works, and apparently there isn’t even a woman in his department . . . . . I would LOVE to know where MIL got this particular lie from . . . the worrying part is that she seems to believe it.
