Mother-in-law Hell

I believe that my MIL takes the cake. It started out 18 years ago before my wedding. She made up some awful story about having cancer. She told her son and asked if he would keep it a secret. Obviously he told me and we finally got the truth later on…I still don’t know if she’s aware that I know her awful lie. A couple of months after we were married, she comes over to help out when my husband came home from surgery. Being grateful for her help, I thanked her. She tries to put me in my place by telling me that he’s still her son even though I married him. Over the years, she has had one pity party after another. When my kids were little, I would let her babysit them so that my husband and I could spend time together. She would play this “not hearing the phone ring” game. Well, after doing this one too many times, I sent my furious neighbor over to check on the kids. Imagine her suprise when the neighbor stood outside of the door and rang our number with her cell. Then, my MIL answered the door, without ever answering her phone. My neighbor tells me that she could hear the phone and my MIL stood there and denied ever hearing it. For years, she would make up little lies, and little stories to make everyone in the family look down on me. After winding up in the hospital with a smoking related illness, I told the doctor that she was a smoker. She had been denying this to the dr. as well as other family members. Needless to say, we don’t speak now because I tried to help her.
