Mother-in-Law HELL

Sorry, this is a tad long.

My boyfriend and I have been dating for more than a year and a half now. We’re both in college and attend the same university. I’m 18, he’s 19. We’re also from the same town and high school. I’m his first girlfriend.

When I first met his mother, she seemed nice enough. She was friendly and invited me over for dinner relatively often. Soon, things turned slightly sour as she enforced “family time” in her house. My boyfriend was to have at least 4 dinners at home per week and spend “quality family time” with her, his father, and his brother at her discretion. His father and younger brother are both laid-back and try to avoid getting involved in her battles with him. I had just recently came back from spending two days with my in laws…without the husband. We went to my nieces birthday party which is 3 hours from where we live and just about the whole entire party time, my mil was making rude comments about a couple of the kids parents, saying that they “only think of themselves and not the children”. Reason behind these comments was because the kids made a remark stating their parents “never had them do fun crafts at their parties” like my sil does for her girls. It then continued the next day with her sister after church about driving arrangements. We had taking two cars one my sil’s and the other my fil’s and my mil made arrangements that me & her would ride to church in one car with one of the girls and coming back she would drive my fil’s car…

First thing that got me…
My husband and I had to live with his parents and his 2 siblings (one age of 30). We lived in a tiny room and I was pregnant. I went into labor at 39 weeks and it was just me and my hubby at the hospital. My grandma and mom were in the delivery room for a bit of the time, but when I was going to push I asked them to leave so it could be a nice private family event.

I was in the middle of pushing and his mom pops in. I didn’t want her seeing my parts! The nurse hurriedly rushed her out and that was that, I gave birth and had a few private minutes with my new family.

Then she pops in again!!! I didn’t want her in there first, I hardly knew her. I wanted my mom and grandma in there!…

I have an honest to goodness physical reaction to my mother in law. She is super needy, and relies on my husband for EVERYTHING.

I am a stepmother to my husband’s child. MIL has always favored the ex-gf over me, just because she has been around longer. I don’t really let that bother me, but I think part of her issue is that I am my husband’s first and only WIFE. My husband FINALLY grew up and left her house and her control when he met me, and she doesn’t like that. Her husband died right around the time we met, and she uses MY husband as HER husband. Even on my wedding day she told me that she was losing the only man in her life. And not in an “aww I’m sad I am losing my son” way, a “boo hoo now I don’t have a man to cater…

My MIL is just a royal f-ing bitch! There’s too many things to mention. But basically I have been keeping my distance for 6 months or more. I don’t go around, call, or accept calls. My husband and kids still see her and the il and things have been fine. In the past when we have said something to her, she rearranges what happens and the fil takes her side. I don’t understand how he can’t see that the whole family, not just us, can’t stand to be around her. She’s a very strange old lady. Just the other day, my kids let me know that she commented that our floors were dirty and that’s why she doesn’t allow them to eat or drink in her house other than the kitchen.
