Dear Mother in law,
It is 9.40pm and it is at least the fifth time you have called today. I don’t know how many more times you have phoned, as I was at work. I dialled 1471 when I got in, and then you called again at 5.30, I didn’t answer it. I just looked at the phone and swore. A lot.
I realise that you have worked yourself up into some kind of son’s fortieth birthday/holiday frenzy and I know you are upset that you don’t get to go to the upmarket carvery for your son’s birthday, but is it really necessary to call five times and on a Monday? I know you haven’t been to work since circa1952 unless you consider your current appointment of Wicked Witch of the West to be a job. But you didn’t have to apply for that one did you? You just sort of are…

Dear MIL,
Why did you do this? You’ve hurt every single person in your family, and in mine … I thought everyone was meant to have at least a shred of humanity, but I honestly haven’t seen any in you yet. You broke your wonderful, gentle, loving son’s heart, and then proceeded to stamp on it repeatedly until there was hardly any life left in it … unfortunately for you, you also stamped out all the love and affection he had for you and FIL and his sisters. Happy now? You’ve alienated your 1st son, and your DIL, and ruined your other childrens’ lives .. but it’s “all my fault” so you don’t need to feel any guilt … just sit there crying, being the poor little mistreated mummy while everyone comforts you and slags me off for stealing your son away, and making him choose me over his whole family…

It’s been over 3 years, and I’ve really had enough!

Dearest MIL,
I tried so hard to include you in everything that DH and I were going through..our wedding, the youngest being born, dinners, etc. You refused everything. You lied and told FIL that you weren’t told about the wedding. You ignored me the entire time I was pregnant, but as soon as you “figured” I’d be pregnant long enough, you all of a sudden became “interested” in the baby. You forgot I had another child all together, not once did you ever ask about him, give him a toy, ask how he or I were ever doing.
