Mother-in-Law HELL

I watched the premiere of the reality tv show My Antonio last week  in which the never-aging Antonio is searching for true love. To add a twist, his first true love and ex-wife, Tully Jensen enters the house looking to win back her true love.  So far–so good. Then VH1 decides to turn up the heat even more by adding a little mixer to the cocktail party—Mamma Sabato. Ladies, let’s just say that for those of us who have lived(mine is an exmil) with a Mother-in-law from hell, your heart must have been racing and the claws must have come out. Yvonne Sabato shows up on the scene wearing typical milzilla attire—she is dressed in black from head to toe.  Let’s not forget, her son is there to find true love and to this mother-in-law, she might as well be attending a funeral.  Within minutes, Antonio’s physical appeal vanishes into thin air as he clearly shows that his mother rules the roost–Mamma’s Boy Alert!! Yvonne immediately begins judging the women and telling her very grown up son which women are wrong for him.  Antonio shakes his head up and down agreeing with his dear mother acting like the well-behaved young man she EXPECTS him to be.

Fast forward a few nights. I watch a rerun of the premiere.  I have a new take on it. Yvonne Sabato may not be wrong about some of the women who are on the show. Without knowing him or them, some of these ladies are clearly there for the wrong reason. If he was my brother, I would probably give him the same advice.  However, there is a commonality these MILH and the men they gave birth to share. First, they have vomit of the mouth.  These women do not know how to say something without it coming out as an insult or sounding judgmental.  It’s the way you say something that changes the course of conversation. She  was cold and rude when questioning these women. Yet, the bigger issue that many of you know well is that these men seem to lose their testicles when it comes to telling their mom enough is enough.  As Yvonne is interrogating that one blonde women(who seems a bit off), I am watching this “Italian Stallion” squirm in his seat and whisper ever so softly for his mom to please stop.  Don’t men realize that they need to set the stage for the relationship that his mother and wife will have.  Both women deserve respect..
