I have been married less than 2 years. My MIL lives 1 mile down the road from us, and she comes over every day on her stupid golf cart while we are not home. I know this because she is usually in the yard when I get home from work. She also rides around the front yard and backyard on Saturday when I am home and my husband is at work. Usually she has her grandchildren, or my SIL riding along. They are not visiting…just lOOking. Does this seem wierd, because it really gets on my nerves. She also makes comments about my garden, like…”it looks like such and such needs to be picked”, and other such stuff. Now this is my garden, and I tend it when I can. I work full time, and while I am at work she is out behind my house (or in front yard) inspecting. I am 49 years old. I dont need her advise/comments. I would think if she would come up with a project or two of her own she may not be so nosy as to what I do. What do you think?

I think you need to put some rows of nails down to take out that golf cart — or let the air out of her tires every night. Maybe you should find/make a sign with a picture of a golf cart on it? Then put a red circle with a line through it and post it on your property? Ot several such signs?
I suppose you could get a high fence to keep her out, or a really mean dog that you keep on your property with an invisible fence. That way, if she got too close, she’d at least get a nip on her backside, or her cart might sustain some damage.
Or, you could tell her, that if she is SO INTERESTED in your garden, then she should PLANT her own.
As a last ditch effort, you could check with the city and see if what she is doing is illegal. If it is, REPORT the old biddy and then wait for the cops to arrive for a dressing down.

Your story made me laugh! She sounds like a real nut job. I would put up a privacy fence. Or purchase a golf cart and drive around her yard on Saturday mornings.
Sounds like she’s just bored and needs something to do. Can you get her a small pet to tend to?

I’d put up those NO TRESPASSING signs and start calling the cops with she is driving over your yard. Gee, MIL dear, does it look like there is a putting green back here? Or turn on the sprinklers when she is driving in your yard. OOPS!
This is so funny….that is EXACTLY what my fil does in my yard with his little 4-wheeler thing. It’s like they think that our yard is the road!! Yes, these inlaws most definatly need a hobby. The comments about the garden are so stupid, she needs to mind her own business in her own yard, but I guess if she did that, she wouldn’t have anything to talk about, huh? LOL
But seriously, it’s pretty pathetic that they have to drive all the way down to your place for somewhere to go, while your at work nonetheless. What a loon!!!!

you might want to offer them a job……”since you’re here everyday anyway, could you 1) clean up the dog’s poop ? OR tend to the peas, roses, snapdragons (whatever!) Yours are so beautiful, I wish I had the time.” If they accept then you have gardening help, if they don’t want to do it, I bet the visits stop.
